Two weekends ago saw Ralph and Leigh in action. Leigh was doing a fun super sprint at Kenosee lake where she took first overall female!

Ralph was in Ottawa for the national champs hoping to earn a worlds spot in the standard distance Tri. Unfortunately a rain storm caused a water safety issue and the Tri was changed into a du. Despite hot temps and high humidity for this Alberta triathlete he put down solid splits and across the board and snagged himself a top 10 spot and is off to Rotterdam next year! Congrats Ralph!!

This past weekend was a busy one! Brent and Yvonne were off to Nelson with their daughter Morag. Conditions were tough this year with lots of wind making for a tough swim and ride. And the hills on the run… Just wow! But the family that tris together did awesome! Brent and Morag both had great races in the sprint with strong splits and both placing second in their age groups. This was Yvonne’s first Olympic Distance race. It wasn’t without its challenges. She had a calf cramp in the swim and a dropped chain on the bike, but though it all she dug deep and kept working on moving forward. Finished with a great time, solid pacing and also second in her age group!

On Saturday Hillie and Leoni were at the Chinook Tri. The wind was being a nuisance there as well creating waves that caused the swim to be shortened. Leoni had a great swim, despite the conditions, improving On her pace from last year. A few weekends ago she absolutely killed her bike split at gwn, but suffered on the run as a result. Her goal for Chinook was to enjoy the run so she dialed back the bike pace ( but was still faster than last year!) and had a fabulous run and finished 4th in her age group! She’s working hard to find that sweet spot of bike run balance! So close now!

Hillie is a strong pool swimmer and is working so hard at her open water skills and it’s paid off. But the waves were a big struggle for her On Saturday and she came out of the water in 22nd. She didn’t quit while she was down though! She put the swim behind her and focused on the rest of her race. She rode down most of the women’s field with the second fastest bike split of the day. She then ran down a few more on the run to finish fourth overall and second in her age group! Never give up!!!!

Last but not least our third time ironman finisher Rene was racing while we were sleeping at ironman Mastricht in the Netherlands. Some bike glitches the day before caused some stress but this guy took it in stride and had a great race day! He had a great swim with a new Im swim pr. He had a solid first lap on the hilly bike course before rain made the second lap a lot harder and dangerous. He said there were lots of crashes! He had a great run with a new im run pr despite running on the hard cobblestones! A great day on a gorgeous course with a finishing time of 14:56!! Huge congrats on your day Rene!
