Taken from her mother’s arms in a flood in California

Kyle Doan went missing after being swept away by the recent flooding in California. Despite numerous search attempts, he still has not been found.

Doan, a five-year-old boy, and his mother were on their way to school when their vehicle got stuck in heavy flooding.

Rescuers have not been able to locate the boy so far. Hundreds of members of the National Guard are searching for him.

Considering how long he has been missing and the fact that he is only a five-year-old child, the chances of finding him alive are very slim, admits his father Brian.

Kyle Doan is missing – he was caught in a flood in California

Severe flooding in California resulted in five-year-old Kyle Doan missing for several days.

Kyle was with his mother, who was driving him to school early on Monday, January 9, 2023, when their car got stuck in a flood.

Kyle’s mother, Lindsy, is a special education teacher at the same school, Larsen Elementary School, that he attends.

Around 7:45 in the morning, their vehicle had to stop due to a heavy flood.

When the flood engulfed the car, which was about to be submerged, the mother removed Kyle from the seat.

Lindsy remembered being constantly pulled by the current, and each time she gasped and looked up at her son.

When the water began to move the vehicle, the two had no choice but to get out of it. As they went out, the current of water proved powerless.

No matter how hard Lindsy tried to keep her son, Kyle, she couldn’t. She kept clinging to the tree and trying to grab Kyle’s hand.

Unfortunately, the two were separated by the flood Kyle swept far. Lindsy was rescued from the water, but Kyle was nowhere to be found.

The county sheriff said more than 100 members of the National Guard are looking for the boy and will continue until they find him.

The search had to be called off several times due to low visibility and poor weather conditions, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities mobilized K-9 dogs, primarily downstream from where Kyle’s mother was rescued.

More about Kyle Doan

Kyle Doan is a five-year-old boy who attends kindergarten at a school in the village of San Luis Obispo in San Miguel County, California.

He went missing early Monday morning, and his chances of surviving the massive flood were slim.

The five-year-old’s father, Brian Doan, mourned because he does not think his son is still alive. He told reporters: “It’s not a bailout. That’s recovery.”

Brian recalled that 2022 was a challenging year for Kyle. He tripped in kindergarten, which resulted in surgery, and rods were placed in his broken leg.

However, Kyle adapted and recovered a few months later. His rods were removed in November 2022, and doctors gave him six weeks to recover.

The five-year-old eagerly started school after Monday’s holiday. He was a charming boy who loved to dance.

Brian recalled that Kyle played soccer and liked Paw Patrol.

According to Kyle’s mother, as she struggled to get him out of the car, his last words were, “Mom, it’s going to be okay. Just be calm.”

The two had no choice but to get out of the car that was slowly sinking into the water.

Rescuers were able to save Lindsy, but could not find her son, Kyle. It is suspected that he was washed away by a nearby river.

The search for Kyle Doan continues.
