The First Circuit of Terrorism at the State Security Criminal Court, sitting in the court complex of the Badr Correction and Rehabilitation Center Appeals Office, issued its ruling in Case No. 72 of 2021, registered as No. 9 of 2021, New Cairo College, and known in the media as “The Platform Events.”

The court punished Muhammad Badie, the group’s guide, Mahmoud Ezzat, the acting guide, Muhammad al-Beltagy, Amr Zaki, Osama Yassin, Safwa Hegazy, Asim Abdel Majid, and Muhammad Abdel Maqsoud, with death by hanging for what was assigned to them.
The Supreme State Security Prosecution referred the case of the Platform Incidents to the State Security Criminal Court in April 2021, for the First Terrorism Circuit, headed by Counselor Mohamed Sherine Fahmy, President of the Supreme State Security Criminal Court, to hear the first session of the case on June 6, 2021, at the court’s headquarters in the Tora Courts Complex, The trial is then transferred to the court complex at the Badr Correction and Rehabilitation Center Appeals Office, and over the course of successive sessions, the court considers the trial of the accused.
In September 2021, the court heard the referral order for the defendants in the platform events case. The Public Prosecution charged the first to sixth defendants with the fact that, during July 2013 in the Nasr City Second Division, they assumed leadership in a group established in contravention of the provisions of the law, the purpose of which was to call for disrupting the provisions of the constitution and the law, including state institutions and public authorities, from carrying out their work and attacking the personal freedom of citizens. And the public freedoms and rights guaranteed by the Constitution and the law and harming national unity and social peace, with the first defendant assuming leadership of the Brotherhood, the “General Guide,” and the second through sixth defendants assuming leadership including “members of the group’s Guidance Office and the General Shura Council,” that group that aims to change the government system. By force and attacking individuals and facilities of the armed forces, the police, and public facilities, terrorism was one of the means used by this group to achieve its goals.
They provided material aid to a group established in contravention of the provisions of the law, by supplying the group that is the subject of the indictment with weapons, ammunition, and incendiary devices. They, along with unknown others, planned a gathering whose purpose was to commit premeditated murder in implementation of a terrorist purpose, and to use force, violence, and threats with public officials to force them, without right, to refrain from performing an act of terrorism. Acts of their job and intentional sabotage of public buildings and property designated for government interests and public facilities in implementation of a terrorist purpose, and displaying force and threatening violence and using them with the intention of disturbing public security and peace, and influencing the authorities in their work by using force and threats, by inciting the defendants from the ninth to the last and others to participate in a gathering on Victory Road. For the same purposes, they were commissioned, and they agreed with them, to draw up a plan that defined the role of each of them, and they helped them by supplying them with firearms and white weapons.
