The esteemed artist Jamil Barsoum has departed from our world today, after a distinguished artistic journey that spanned over half a century of creativity, during which he succeeded in leaving a mark whether in drama or cinema. Jamil Barsoum was born in Beheira Governorate and graduated through the educational stages until his secondary group led him to study at the Higher Institute of Agriculture. But he only lasted one year and transferred his papers to the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts.
While Father Boutros Daniel announced the death of the artist Jamil Barsoum after honoring him at the Catholic Center Festival, the artist who revealed the details of his entry into the field of art through the Her Excellency program, broadcast on the DMC channel, where he said: “I was studying at the Higher Agricultural Institute and remained there for two years.” Then I moved to the Institute of Dramatic Arts, and my father wanted me to study in a profession where I would get a salary and a pension, so I told him I would get a salary and a pension. I watched the artist Mahmoud Al-Hadini, who is from my generation, and I loved the field of art.”
Jamil Barsoum continued: “I graduated from the Institute of Dramatic Arts, and my class was Muhammad Kamel, Muhammad al-Arabi, and Souad Nasr. Samir al-Asfouri saw me and came to me and asked me to submit my papers to the Vanguard Theater and I was appointed there, then I moved on to acting on television.”
