Maxim Plekoshchenko, score: 6
Scored Maccabi Netanya’s most important goal of the season
Nadav Zamir, score: 4
He has a big part in the second goal his team conceded
Maccabi Netanya went through a difficult period recently, with six games without a win, but tonight (Tuesday) they managed to recover and qualified for the quarterfinals of the State Cup with a 2:1 against Hapoel Jerusalem.
The diamonds were not in a big game. The momentum fluctuated between the sides throughout the games, but both teams struggled to create real situations in the first half, when in the end the Netanyaites took the lead with a big mistake goal by Shahar Piven who tried to keep the ball away without an address and found his team’s net in the 45th minute.
As the second half progressed, the team from the capital took control of the game, but only in the 87th minute did they manage to find the deserved equalizer when Ofek Biton pushed from close range and sent the game to overtime.
The teams reached the extra time in the same form, Hapoel Jerusalem controlling the game, but it did not help the Reds. Contrary to the course of the game, Maxim Falkushchenko provided a moment of magic with a tremendous volley into the net in the 107th minute which was enough for Netanya to eliminate Hapoel Jerusalem in the round of 16 with 1:2 at the end.
Guy Sarfati’s team came back to win after five losses and a draw, and they did it in the most important enterprise for the club. She will now wait for the quarter-final draw that will take place on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
