Lightning strike: after a flood of goals, Maccabi Haifa was burned in extra time against Fiorentina

The two Israeli representatives in the Conference League, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Maccabi Haifa, went up tonight (Thursday) to play in the Round of 16 of the Conference League in Eastern European countries. The former managed to beat Olympiakos 1:4 in a big show and gave the national champion an option to give the Israeli women a successful evening, but Antonin Barak made it 4:3 for Fiorentina after a huge game in Budapest, in what was a painful loss for the Masai Dago group.

The game started with rain that made the pitch more muddy and wet, but that didn’t stop both teams from putting on a show in front of the goal. It started with Ambala Anzola’s strike in the second minute to give the Italians the lead, but Abdoulaye Sek equalized ten minutes later.

Maccabi Haifa was much better in the first half and this was reflected in dangerous situations, which Franzadi Piero was unable to convert into goals. The one who did score was Gadi Kinda, who received a great ball from Ali Mohamed and gave the greens their first lead in the 29th minute.

At the start of the second half, the Viola looked much better and managed to equalize with a goal from Lucas Beltran (56), but Anan Halaili in a great move scored the third in green nine minutes later. Rolando Mandroga tied the match for the third time in the 73rd minute when he was left free in the box and it looked like the match would end in a tie, but not if you ask Antonin Barak.

The Pole came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute, two minutes after Shaw left Haifa with ten players after being sent off on a second yellow. Half a minute to the end and five minutes of added time, the midfielder took control of a ball in the box and released a great kick to the connections of Sharif Kiuf. In the end, 3:4 to Fiorentina, when the Haifaites still have a chance to advance to the next stage in the rematch that will be held in Florence next Thursday.
