On the occasion of International Women’s Day, a Palestinian official calls for protection for women in Gaza

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Secretary of the General Union of Palestinian Women, Mona Al-Khalili, called on the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop its aggression against Gaza, calling at the same time to provide protection for Palestinian women and girls and stop all forms of violence against them, especially in the Gaza Strip..

Al-Khalili said – in a telephone interview with Al-Hurra news channel today (Friday) – that Palestinian women are directly affected by the aggression, which requires international and humanitarian institutions to provide all forms of support and assistance to them in order to strengthen their steadfastness in the face of the continuing aggression on the Gaza Strip..

The Palestinian official pointed to the severe suffering experienced by women in Gaza in light of the lack of all economic, social and health conditions that made them undergo surgical operations, including caesarean sections without anesthesia due to the depletion of medical supplies and the withdrawal of most hospitals from service in the Strip..

The United Nations Special Rapporteur on violence against women, Reem Al-Salem, had previously confirmed that women in Gaza were subjected to “inhuman and degrading” treatment, expressing her deep concern about this..

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of victims, most of them children and women. Which led to Israel being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide” against the Palestinian people.
