After most UFC events, the promotion doles out $200,000 in fight-night bonus awards. The Fight of the Night winners get $50,000 each, and the UFC also distributes two Performance of the Night awards in that same amount. On Saturday, in the aftermath of one of the best fight cards in recent memory, UFC 299, UFC CEO Dana White announced seven bonus winners for a total of $350,000.
“Fight of the Night, Dustin (Poirier) and Benoit (Saint Denis),” White said at the UFC 299 post-fight Press Conference. “Performance of the Night, O’Malley, and we gave everybody who had a finish $50,000, except for Dustin, because he won Fight of the Night.”
Poirier delivered a gutsy performance in the evening’s co-main event, stopping a formidable and younger opponent in Saint-Denis in the second round after struggling in the first stanza.
O’Malley, who entered UFC 299 as the defending UFC bantamweight champion, put on a masterful striking performance against the only man who has a win against him, Marlon “Chito” Vera. O’Malley swept Vera on the scorecards in defense of the belt he won in August 2023 with a second-round TKO win over Aljamain Sterling.
Jack Della Maddalena was the third fighter to pick up a finish on the pay-per-view portion of the ESPN+ streaming fight card, who picked up a late third-round TKO win over former UFC welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns.
The prelims only had one finish out of four fights. In that matchup, Curtis Blaydes came back from a rough first round where he was taken down nine times and controlled for 4:39 to get a TKO win over Jailton Almeida.
Two stoppages occurred on the early prelim portion of the UFC 299 fight card. The first saw highly touted heavyweight Robelis Despaigne pick up a quick 18-second TKO win over Josh Parisian. Despaigne made his UFC debut on Saturday and moved to 5-0 with five first-round finishes. The other fight that ended before the final horn on the early prelims was the middleweight scrap between Michel Pereira and Michal Oleksiejczuk. Pereira finished that matchup via rear-naked choke in the second round to extend his winning streak to seven straight UFC bouts.
UFC 299 took place on Saturday at Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida. The pay-per-view portion of the card steamed on ESPN+ pay-per-view following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on ESPN+.
