Arsenal played great football and continued 2024 dream for them, at least within the league, last night (Saturday) in 1:2 against Brentford. The story of the game, probably, was Aaron Ramsdale’s evening.
The goalkeeper who lost his place to David Raya (who came from the same Brentford) started for the first time in the lineup, made a difficult mistake but impressed with two big saves in the second half. He could also find himself in the lineup for the second leg in the Champions League given the injury to that eye.
Jamie Randup was flattered: “You can see Ramsdale’s character. He had great saves after the mistake, he showed his character.” “It was a good game overall,” continued Sky Sports’ Nick Wright. “His teammates hugged him at the end and rightfully so.”
Mikel Arteta, his coach: “He is very brave. Mistakes are part of football. You have to win every game to win the championship here.”
On the negative side, the same Ramsdale was directly responsible for Brentford’s equaliser. “She didn’t deserve the equalizer, but Brentford could not refuse a gift like the one Ramsdale gave her,” the “Mirror” wrote about the conquest of Ewan Wisa. Mikel Arteta backed up his goalkeeper: “Mistakes are part of football. Coming back from it is important and he did it in a wonderful way. We really wanted to win for Aron, we are very happy.”
The great form of Mikel Arteta’s men comes, as we know, just in time for the decisive moments of the season. With 10 rounds to go, Arsenal appear to be in top form, with the numbers undoubtedly on their side.
Tonight’s victory was the eighth in a row in the league – a streak that the Gunners have not recorded since April 2015 under the guidance of Arsene Wenger. But the impressive balance does not end here.
Since the start of 2024, Arsenal have scored the most goals in the league (33) and conceded the fewest (4). Also, Mikel Arteta’s team won the most games (8) and lost the fewest (0). Beyond that, the fewest kicks were kicked to her frame (16).
