Today, Egypt and a number of Arab and Islamic countries are observing the crescent of the blessed month of Ramadan after the Maghrib prayer.
After today’s Maghrib prayer, the Egyptian Fatwa House announces the reconnaissance of the Ramadan crescent on Sunday, March 10, and announces the results of the Sharia sighting, and the findings of its Sharia and scientific committees spread across the governorates of the Republic.
According to astronomical calculations, the crescent of Ramadan for the year 1445 AH will be born in Egypt after the conjunction occurs at exactly 11:02 AM local Cairo time on Sunday 29 Shaban 1445 AH corresponding to 3/10/2024 AD (sighting day). Thus, the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan 1445 AH will be astronomically on Monday 3/11/2024 AD.
Kuwaiti astronomer Adel Al-Saadoun sparked controversy among his followers, and wrote in his account on the “X” platform: “Blessed Ramadan is March 11 astronomically and March 12 according to Sharia sighting.. The crescent of the month of Ramadan will be born on Sunday, Shaaban 29, 1445, corresponding to March 10, 2024, at 12 noon.” Therefore, it is impossible to see it on the same evening, neither with the naked eye nor with binoculars.”
The astronomer added: “The crescent will be sighted on the evening of March 11, and the beginning of Ramadan will be March 12, according to Sharia sighting.” Pointing out that “the conjunction of the moon with the sun will occur on March 11.”
