Tea, the favorite hot drink for many, may have a negative effect on your feeling of thirst during the day in Ramadan, especially if it is consumed before the suhoor meal.
Dr. Nahla Abdel Wahab, Bacteria, Immunity and Nutrition Consultant at Cairo University Hospital, says that tea is a popular drink loved by many of us, and tea contains a percentage of caffeine, which is a diuretic.
She added in a special statement to “Masrawy” that the percentage of caffeine present in tea is a diuretic, which causes an increase in the number of urination times, and thus the loss of a large portion of the water stored within the body.
Tea also causes a feeling of dryness in the mouth, which makes you feel very thirsty. I also advised using alternatives and drinks for suhoor instead of tea, which are the following:
1- Drinking water is the best drink ever, as it helps hydrate the body.
2- Milk with banana.
3- Yogurt.
4- Cucumber juice, or cucumber pieces.
She advised avoiding drinks that cause dehydration, such as coffee and soft drinks, as well as fatty foods and sugars.
