This is what happens to cholesterol and sugar levels when you eat qatayef –

Written by Alaa Nabil:

Qatayef is one of the main sweet dishes on the table during the holy month of Ramadan. Adults and children love to eat it due to its delicious taste, but some people are unaware of its effect on blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

So in this regard, Dr. Osama Salah, a clinical nutritionist, said that the effect of qatayef on cholesterol and blood sugar levels depends on the way it is prepared, as qatayef dough is a simple carbohydrate that can increase insulin, and thus raise blood sugar levels.

Salah added that frying Qatayef in ghee, which is an animal product, raises total cholesterol levels, specifically harmful cholesterol, and it can rise exaggeratedly when eating Qatayef excessively, i.e. between 3 to 10 pieces.

The clinical nutritionist confirmed that the filling inside qatayef can affect the levels of sugar and cholesterol in the blood, such as raisins, which are rich in sugar and can cause an imbalance in their levels.

Salah advised that avoiding excessive consumption of Qatayef does not threaten the health of the body, and that making sure to eat it more than 3 hours after breakfast does not pose a threat to the health of the digestive system, and it is preferable that the number of seeds eaten range from 1 to 2 maximum. Maximum.
