Former US President Donald Trump said that one of his first moves as president, if he wins the current presidential race, will be to free those who have been accused and convicted of crimes related to the attack on… US Capitol On January 6, 2021.
Trump wrote on his social networking platform, “Truth Social,”: My first moves as your next president will be to close the borders… and release the January 6 hostages who were wrongly imprisoned.

A Trump campaign spokesman declined to immediately respond to a request to provide further details about the post.
Trump has long called on President Biden to release those accused in the events of the storming of Congress, and indicated that he is likely to pardon a large number of them if he were elected in November. He also repeatedly described the defendants as hostages, a description that the White House said was inconsistent.
About 500 people were sentenced in connection with the events of the storming of Congress, and prosecutors approved more than 950 convictions, according to the US Attorney’s Office for Washington, DC. More than 1,350 people have been charged in connection with the attack.
Last year, Trump promised to pardon a large percentage of those convicted in the January events, and added that he would do so early. The president in the United States has the power to pardon and commute federal sentences upon assuming office.
