The former Okhalhoma candidate allegedly punched Amelia Molitor, breaking her facial bones and necessitating hospitalization and surgery.

The incident took place in Norman, Oklahoma, on July 25, 2014, the day after Mixon turned 18. Later that October, the football player entered an Alford plea.

Molitor claimed the running back and his teammates harassed her and her friends outside a store.

The security footage revealed that Mixon followed Molitor into the store. Soon after, they got into an argument. Molitor then pushed and punched Mixon in the face.

The footballer then punched her and forced her to fall into a table. After the incident, Molitor had to undergo surgery as the blow and subsequent fall had broken four bones in her face.

Molitor claimed Mixon’s homophobic slurs at her and her friends after following them into the store aggravated the situation.

The Bengals running back claimed that Molitor’s friend had used a racial epithet against him and that Mixon had retaliated by using a homophobic epithet.

Was Joe Mixon Arrested for Misdemeanor Assault?

On August 19, 2014, investigators concluded that the athlete had been arrested and charged with a misdemeanor charge.

The soccer player was given a one-year suspended sentence and mandated to perform 100 hours of community service and counseling.

In addition, the athlete was suspended from varsity in his freshman year, but was still allowed to participate.

The security footage mentioned above was not released – there was only a scene view.

In February 2015, a county judge said the city of Norman was under no obligation to release the video. The judge ruled that the video should not be released because no arrest is depicted under open records laws.

Several media outlets filed lawsuits against the city for not complying with their demands for access to public records.

A year later, the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals ruled that the district court’s reasoning for withholding the recordings was incorrect.

Amelia Molitor filed a lawsuit against Joe Mixon

On July 22, 2016, Molitor filed a lawsuit in federal court against Mixon, accusing Mixon of negligence, willful and wanton misconduct, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

On 21 April 2017, both parties entered into a joint settlement for the civil case.

In addition to the assault case, Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops suspended Joe for one game after a confrontation between Mixon and a parking lot officer in 2016.

Mixon confronted the attendant after receiving a parking ticket, tore it in half and threw the pieces away. The incident report says he then “came toward the officer” with his car “to intimidate the police.”
