We begin our tour of what was published in the press, with a report prepared by the French newspaper Le Monde’s correspondent in Jerusalem, Louis Imbert, entitled “Israel is pursuing a starvation strategy in Gaza,” saying – at the beginning – that Israel is defying international law and disturbing its main ally. United State.
Imbert said that by the month of Ramadan, Gazans celebrate it with empty stomachs, as hunger and thirst have caused the death of at least 27 people, including 23 children, according to the Ministry of Health in the Strip.
Siege strategy
Imbert points to several reasons that led to this stage, noting that since the first days of the war, the right-wing ruling forces in Israel have felt relieved after abandoning the basic principles of humanitarian law, and a belief in being exempt from any obligation due to the horror of the attack committed by Hamas on October 7. The first is 2023, according to the writer’s description.
He adds that the current government arouses dissatisfaction with the Israelis, who have long forgotten about the civilians in Gaza, who were stripped of their humanity after a 15-year siege. Today, the overwhelming majority of Israelis refuse to sympathize with the suffering of the residents of the Gaza Strip, and the extreme right, the main partner of the President, is exploiting… Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, these sentiments in order to impose his agendas on the public debate of ethnic cleansing and reoccupation of Gaza, according to Imbert.
The writer shows that, as the war progressed, the delivery of aid and fuel was gradually allowed under the supervision of the army, but this easing was marred by secrecy, and without the approval of the government, as the extreme right and the Likud Party led by Netanyahu and some of his centrist allies compete in intransigence.
The writer says that with the army announcing new access points for aid, ministers, including those from the centrist opposition, are still reluctant to assume such responsibility.
“Being reassured by the idea that the Palestinian transfer threat has ended is not true.”
To Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed newspaper, in which the writer Muhammad Abu Rumman published an article related to the scenario of Palestinian displacement from the Gaza Strip, entitled “Has the Palestinian transfer scenario declined?”
The writer points out that many Western and Arab decision-making circles believe that the threat of mass displacement of Palestinians (transfer) no longer exists, as there were fears at the beginning of the war on Gaza, for main reasons, foremost of which is the Palestinian insistence, despite the major humanitarian catastrophe, to hold on to the land. …and the strong Arab rejection, Egyptian and Jordanian, and the international community’s failure to accept Israeli ideas in this regard, according to Abu Rumman.
The writer adds that the transfer scenario was not imaginary or merely an “analysis,” but was actually presented during the first visits of US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to the Arab countries, referring to the accounts of Jordanian officials about the king’s categorical rejection of the matter and considering it a “declaration of war.” He adds Abu Rumman said that Jordanian officials offered Blinken to take him on a tour to see the Palestinian camps from 1948 and 1967, when he said that it was a temporary idea until Israel eliminated the Hamas movement there.
According to the article, despite the assumption that the transfer scenario has declined, that Israeli officials have stopped talking about it publicly, and that the American administration has withdrawn from adopting the idea of “temporary deportation,” reassurance in the idea that this danger has ended is not true.
The writer explains the reasons for his concern by talking about Israeli behavior in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem, which – in his opinion – still indicates two main things: First, that there is Israeli procrastination in Gaza and deliberate destruction of infrastructure, and an insistence on invading Rafah and cutting off the life lines in the Gaza Strip.
The writer concludes that the threat of displacement should not be dealt with on the basis that it has ended and is discouraged, as it still exists in his opinion. He added that the displacement project represents the state’s Jewish identity project and not just the Israeli right’s project, and that Israeli policies are moving towards this without opposition from the international community or even Arab countries.
“Israel does not have the luxury of waiting to accept the deal.”
To an editorial in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, which called on the “reasonable wing of the Israeli government” to push for the hostage deal, it says that “they no longer have time.”
The newspaper adds, in its article, that every second that passes puts their lives in danger, considering that their lives have changed beyond recognition. Therefore, the newspaper says that the government must agree to the deal proposed by Hamas and return the hostages to the homeland.
The newspaper says that Israel does not have the luxury of waiting to accept the deal, and adds that if the government rejects this offer – by putting forward new demands aimed at thwarting the deal and continuing the war – this means one thing, that the government and the person who heads it have decided to abandon the hostages, to continue… They suffer or die captured, according to Haaretz.
Through its editorial, the newspaper called on the United States to pressure Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to accept this deal, noting that the Americans understand well that Netanyahu links his political fate to the extreme right, which is interested in continuing the war, occupying the Gaza Strip, and settling Jews there, even at the expense of giving up the hostages.
The newspaper also called on members of the War Council to take action as well, as it said that the Americans are not the only ones who should push towards accepting the deal, referring to War Council member Gadi Eisenkot, who said in an interview with Israeli Channel 12 that he supports continuing to implement the previous agreement despite the violation of the deal. Enthusiasm for the agreement.
She adds that retracting that deal cost the lives of many hostages, and destroyed the lives of their families and loved ones, stressing the necessity of not retracting this time, directing her speech to Eisenkot. She also adds that he and Benny Gantz must stand up and make clear to Netanyahu, the military cabinet, and the entire government that they will not extend a helping hand to continue. Abandoning hostages.
