The Israeli army said on Tuesday that its forces killed more than 50 Palestinian militants and arrested 180 suspected militants during a raid on the Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza.

A new military operation began inside the largest hospital in the Strip before dawn on Monday, and the Israeli army accused Hamas of using the medical facility to hide fighters and plan to launch attacks.

On Monday, the Israeli army announced the killing of 20 Palestinians and one of its soldiers during clashes inside Al-Shifa Hospital, in addition to the arrest of dozens who are being investigated.

The army published a video clip showing what it said were “weapons and money used by Hamas, found in the Al-Shifa complex.”

On Monday morning, the army dropped leaflets directed at residents of the area surrounding the medical complex, which it described as a “dangerous combat zone.”

Addressing the residents, he said that the army “is working forcefully in the area of your residence and presence,” and urged them to leave “immediately,” and to head towards the sea and then south, where he announced the establishment of a “humanitarian zone” in the coastal Al-Mawasi, about 30 kilometers from Gaza in the south.

On Monday, the World Health Organization also expressed its concern after the Israeli operation in the Shifa complex, warning that the battles “expose health workers, patients and civilians to danger.”

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said on the “X” platform: “We are deeply concerned about the situation in Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza,” adding that “hospitals should not be battlefields.”

“Dangerous combat zone”… Will battles be renewed in northern Gaza?

Al-Shifa Hospital, located in the northern Gaza Strip, has returned to the forefront again, after witnessing violent clashes between the Israeli army and the Hamas movement, which is classified as a terrorist organization in the United States and other countries, while specialists reveal to Al-Hurra website the circumstances of “the ignition of that front again,” and their expectations of what might happen during The coming days.

This is the second time since the outbreak of the war against Hamas that the army has carried out an operation in Al-Shifa Hospital. Hamas has previously been accused of using medical facilities as a cover for its operations, which the Palestinian movement denies.

The war broke out in the Gaza Strip following the unprecedented attack on October 7 by the Hamas movement, listed as a terrorist group by the United States and other countries, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people, most of them civilians, including women and children, according to the Israeli authorities.

In response to the attack, Israel pledged to “eliminate the movement,” and has since carried out a bombing campaign followed by ground operations since October 27, killing 31,819 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children, according to what the Gaza Ministry of Health announced.
