Sixth time ice cream? Today (Tuesday) it was decided that the senior English referee Anthony Taylor will officiate the game of the Israel team against Iceland this coming Thursday, when the blue-and-white team has an unencouraging history under the management of the man with the whistle.
The English referee managed 5 Israeli matches throughout his career: the balance is 0 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses. The most memorable game was last November, when Israel finished 1:1 against Switzerland in the Euro qualifiers, when the referee did not call a clear penalty in favor of the blue-whites in the crucial minutes of the game.
Taylor also refereed Maccabi Haifa twice: the first time was in the Halyeh game for the Champions League last season, when the Greens ended 2:2 against Hakochav Hadom Belgrade. The second time was 6:1 to Benfica.
Taylor also managed the team’s 3:2 loss in the Euro 2020 qualifiers to Slovenia in September 2019 – a game in which the blue-whites lost a goal in the 90th minute. Beyond that, he refereed the 5:0 defeat of the youth team to Ukraine somewhere in 2014.
