Oregon State women top Notre Dame in Sweet 16, advance to Elite Eight

Guided by a dominant post presence, the No. 3 Oregon State women’s basketball team pulled away and held off No. 2 Notre Dame late to win an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 matchup Friday at MVP Arena in Albany, New York, 70-65.

It marks the Beavers’ third trip to the Elite Eight in program history and the first since 2018 a year removed from a 13-18 season. The Beavers will face No. 1 South Carolina at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Oregon State Beavers forward Raegan Beers (15) looks to put up a shot against Notre Dame Fighting Irish forward Maddy Westbeld (21) during the second half in the semifinals of the Albany Regional of the 2024 NCAA Tournament at the MVP Arena March 29, 2024, in Albany, New York.

“I thought it was a great representation of who we are,” Oregon State coach Scott Rueck said. “It showed every bit of us, I thought. It wasn’t always perfect, but we found a way. That’s what this team has done all year as we’ve grown together so quickly. Who would have thought before the year that we’d be sitting here? Not many people off this podium and in the locker room, of course.”
