Al-Ahly of Egypt put one foot forward in the semi-finals of the African Champions League, after defeating its host Simba of Tanzania 1-0 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, today, Friday, in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Coca gave the defending champion an early lead after he rebounded a rebound in the fourth minute.

Coach Marcel Kohler’s team retreated after the goal, and Simba imposed control, but was unable to overcome goalkeeper Mustafa Schubert, who stood in the way of the landowner’s attempts.

Schubert shone and saved Che Malone’s shot after a corner kick in the 24th minute, before blocking a low shot from Sadio Kanoute near the break.

Al-Ahly held out in the second half, and a draw – in the return match on April 5 in Cairo – was enough to reach the semi-finals.
