Ahmed Fathi Sorour’s funeral takes place after the noon prayer from the Hassan Sharbatly Mosque in the Fifth Settlement

Tariq Sorour, the son of Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour, former Speaker of the People’s Assembly, announced the funeral of his father today, Saturday, after the noon prayer from the Hassan Sharbatly Mosque in the Fifth Settlement.

Dr. Ahmed Fathi Sorour, a cassation lawyer, former Speaker of the People’s Assembly, and professor of criminal law, passed away this Saturday morning from our world, at the age of 92 years, after a journey of giving in judicial, legal, diplomatic, executive, parliamentary, and professional work.

Ahmed Fathi Sorour has assumed the presidency of the People’s Assembly since 1991 and for 21 consecutive years.


The son of the late legal jurist, commenting on the death of Ahmed Fathi Sorour, said on his Facebook page: To God we belong and to Him we shall return. Today, the night of the twenty-seventh of Ramadan, God has restored his deposit. A symbol of the law has passed away, with a judicial, legal, diplomatic, executive, parliamentary, and professional history. And internationally.



Ahmed Fathi Sorour’s son continued in his post: The man with a kind heart has passed away. He spent all his life serving the people of his country, especially the simple ones, feeling their pain and sorrows. Farewell to the teacher, the caring father, and the good role model after a life full of scientific and social giving.



Ahmed Fathi Sorour’s son continued, “Oh God, on this blessed night, forgive him, have mercy on him, pardon him, treat him well, honor his abode, widen his entrance, purify him from sins as a white garment is purified from filth, protect him from the temptation of the grave and the torment of hellfire.”



Ahmed Fathi Sorour’s son continued his prayer, “Oh God, put his deeds in the balance of his good deeds. Oh God, he was a follower and listener of your book, soft-hearted, tolerant. Oh God, compensate him for every pain that befell him with a paradise as wide as the heavens and the earth. Oh God, with your mercy, place him in a garden and a garden in eternal bliss and an eternal abode.”
