The National Wages Council decided, during its meeting last Sunday, to increase the wages of workers in the private sector to 6,000 pounds, instead of 3,500 pounds, as of May 2024. In line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, with more care, protection and support for workers, “soldiers of production,” and strengthening work relations between both parties of the production process, employers and workers.
According to the text of the National Wage Council’s decision, the minimum wage in the private sector will be 6,000 pounds starting from May 1, 2024, calculated on the basis of the wage stipulated in Clause “C” of Article 1 of the Labor Law, including the employer’s share in social insurance contributions.
Article Two of the National Wages Council’s decision to increase private sector salaries stipulates one condition that enables an establishment not to implement the decision, which is as follows:
“If the establishment is exposed to economic conditions that make it impossible to meet the minimum wage, it may apply for an exception to the obligation to raise the minimum wage to 6,000 pounds in accordance with the rules and procedures found on the official website of both the Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, no later than May 15, 2024, provided that this is Through its affiliated federations.
In a related context, Magdy El-Badawi, Vice President of the Labor Union and former member of the National Wages Council, told Masrawy that with regard to the penalties applied to companies in the event of non-compliance with the minimum, it is according to a circular issued during the era of Mohamed Saafan, Minister of Labor. The first, the penalties are as follows:
– The minimum wage, one of the components of the wage, and failure to implement it will result in a fine ranging from 100 to 500 pounds per person in the institution.
– If you insist on not paying, the fine will be doubled.
