The supplication for new clothing is one of the supplications of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, which Dar Al-Iftaa mentioned in several blog posts and published on his page on the social networking site Facebook. It said in its blog post, which also included a tweet of Imam al-Nawawi’s supplication: “It is desirable for a Muslim to begin wearing the garment, sandals, and trousers, and liken them to the oath.” He removed his sleeves and the legs of his trousers, then he removed the left one, then the right.
Prayer for new clothes
Dar Al-Fatwa also issued Prayer for new clothes, explaining that it expiates sins, citing a hadith narrated by Muaz bin Anas, may God be pleased with him. The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whoever wears a new garment and says, ‘Praise be to God who clothed me with this garment and provided me with it without any power or strength on my part,’ God will forgive him for his previous sins.”
In addition to what Dar said FatwaSome well-known supplications were mentioned in the supplication for new clothes. We hope that those supplications will be answered. Abu Saeed Al-Khudri (may God be pleased with him) said: Whenever the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to find a garment, he would give it its name, either a shirt or a turban, and then he would say: “Oh God, for you.” Praise be to You, You have clothed him. I ask You for his goodness and the goodness of what was done to him, and I seek refuge in You from his evil and the evil of what was done to him.” Abu Nadhrah said: When the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, used to wear a new garment, it would be said to him: “It will wear out and God Almighty will replace it.”
Supplication for wearing new clothes
The explanation of the hadith that mentioned the supplication for new clothes included: “O God, praise be to You. You have clothed me with it, meaning: You are the one who has given me it without any power or strength on my part. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness of what was made for it, meaning: Help me to use it in your obedience and worship, and for it to be of help to me.” In them, I seek refuge in You from his evil and the evil of what was done to him, that is, if I disobey him or that he helps me in disobeying you.”
Abu Nadhrah, who is al-Mundhir ibn Malik, one of the followers, said: “When the Companions of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, put on a new garment, he would be told, that is, he would be called to wear it out, meaning: you will live in it until the garment wears out and is destroyed, and God Almighty will replace it.” Yes, that is: and he succeeds May God bless you with another new garment after your life, and God Almighty knows best.
