Nahum Barnea stings his colleague Amit Segal, the “sector moderator”

Yedioth Ahronoth journalist Nahum Barnea commented in his weekly column on the uproar surrounding the IDF spokesman’s ban on Brigadier General Ofer Winter speaking during his release period, but added a negative tone regarding the conference itself and the moderator – News 12 commentator Amit Segal.

As I recall, Winter was supposed to speak at a conference organized by a forum of commanders and reserve fighters at Expo Tel Aviv last Wednesday evening. According to the organizers of the conference, this is one of the largest conferences of senior officers under the title “Decision Time”, among the participants: four champions and 14 sub-champions as well as dozens of senior officers in the rank of sub-champions and vice-champions.

However, before the conference, the IDF forbade Winter to speak at the conference. Deputy Chief of Staff Colonel Amir Baram and IDF spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Hagari informed Winter that during his release leave he is not allowed to make a speech or appear in public. It should be noted that Winter himself during a day Jerusalem gave a speech to the public that went viral.

Despite the bewilderment of the organizers of the conference, the IDF adhered to the ban, and on behalf of the forum that organized the conference it was stated: “The IDF wishes to prevent Tal Winter from speaking tonight during the ‘Decision Time’ conference, the forum will contact the IDF in the coming hours to understand why he was banned He must give a lecture on a professional topic of military decision and victory, and he will ask the IDF spokesman to allow the lecture to be given under the observance of all the relevant instructions.”

Upon Winter’s entrance into the conference, moderator Amit Segal humorously said about the IDF’s decision: “The IDF spokesperson allows you to be applauded”, which led the audience to applaud the political commentator’s witty comment.

Amit Segal, the sectoral moderator, contributed his wit from the stage. “I wonder if the IDF spokesman allows clapping,” he said. He was the only one who laughed.

Despite this, Nahum Barnea wrote differently. He sarcastically called Winter “the hero of the day” in light of his late arrival at the conference (“he arrived at the conference an hour late, as expected from the hero of the day”) and this after Winter arrived with four photographers. To this Barnea added: “Amit Segal, the sector moderator, contributed his wit from the stage. “I wonder if the IDF spokesman allows applause,” he said. He was the only one who laughed.”
