The incident of the quarrel, in which the Al-Ahly club and Egyptian national football team player Emam Ashour appeared, attracted attention and topped the trend on Google and X in Egypt on Friday, and the video of the quarrel spread widely on social media sites.
The story began in one of the famous commercial centers in Giza Governorate, where the Al-Ahly player appeared in videos that spread on “social media” with a group of young men entering the mall, amid a story saying that Ashour received a call from his wife that she was being harassed by a security personnel, and another story. She says that she was harassed by young men at the mall and that security saw this harassment and did not intervene, but rather infiltrated the young men and took them out of the mall before the player arrived. Therefore, he became angry with them, and entered into an altercation with them, during which one of the security personnel fell unconscious, and he was treated by Ashour and those with him.
Although those present took control of the situation and eventually reconciled, according to local media, a security personnel filed a report against Ashour, and the authorities are investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, reactions to the incident ranged between those who saw Ashour’s behavior as “normal,” and that he was defending his wife, to those who saw it as “inappropriate” behavior.
The owner of an account called “Warda Misr” on “X” said: “When someone opposes his wife, this must be his reaction, Aash Imam Ashour.”
Another account holder on “X,” named “Ali El-Gamal,” commenting on the video of Ashour entering the mall with a group of young men, said: “Imam Ashour is acting in an action movie,” while Egyptian newspaper websites described the incident as a “street fight.”
Egyptian sports critic Abu Al-Maati Zaki told the story as it came to him during a video he posted on his Facebook page and on YouTube. He considered that “Ashour was wrong in his reaction,” and said that Al-Ahly management and Captain Khaled Bebo are trying to solve the problem, and that Captain Mahmoud Al-Khatib is the club’s president. Al-Ahly requested a full report on the incident.
Egyptian sports critic Mohamed El-Shahat said, “These things happen to all people, but when they happen to a football star or a society star, they become attention-grabbing.”
He added to Asharq Al-Awsat: “Whenever he is with his wife, sister, or one of his relatives in a public place, any star is required to have a lot of patience. Because it is difficult to control the public’s reactions towards you, and we know that the nature of the public is not devoid of fanaticism.”
He continued: “I believe that Al-Ahly will move to resolve the issue amicably, and reconcile with the security worker who was attacked, according to what was mentioned in the report he prepared.”
Al-Shahat stressed, “Rejecting any immoral or immoral behavior by any star or football player, no matter how much provocation he is exposed to in the public sphere, and it is always the fans of competing clubs that raise these issues on a large scale in an attempt to harm the player, but this is not the case.” Excuses or engages in inappropriate behavior with any audience member; Because this reduces the popularity of stars, and I hope this does not happen to any football player so that his popularity is not diminished, whether among the fans of the club to which he belongs or the football fans in general.”
It is noteworthy that Imam Ashour, born in 1998, began his career in the youth sector with Ghazl El Mahalla, then moved to Haras El Hodoud Club, then played for Zamalek Club, and finally moved in 2023 to Al Ahly Club, and he is a midfielder for the Egyptian national team.
