Pique: Yamal will lead a campaign for change in Europe, and this is my candidate to win the Euro!

Barcelona legend Gerard Pique believes that Lamine Yamal, the Catalan team’s winger, will form a new era of stars in Europe.

Yamal broke into Barcelona’s first team under the leadership of sacked coach Xavi Hernandez last season, which made him join Spain’s squad for Euro 2024, a competition in which the 16-year-old has been performing at outstanding levels so far.

In this context, Pique said in an interview with the German newspaper Bild: “There is a general generational change in the Euro, due to the emergence of new players such as Yamal in Spain, Jude Bellingham in England and Jamal Musiala with Germany.”

He added: “The tournament will be a turning point because there are many young players who have a great future.”

Regarding the team that is nominated to win the Euro: “The advantage of playing on the ground can help the Germans a lot, given that their team is young and currently undergoing a rebuilding process, and they also have a long history of winning tournaments.”

He explained: “Spain’s situation is similar to the German team. There is a generational change. If you talk about our team, we will find that we have shown a good face in tournaments in recent years, so we are considered among the candidates to win the title.”

It is worth noting that Germany secured qualification to the round of 16 in the Euro after its victory over Scotland and Hungary, and the same applies to Spain, which beat both Italy and Croatia in the first two rounds.
