Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called on Sunday for an end to the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, under an agreement guaranteeing the return of Israeli prisoners detained inside the Strip.
Olmert added that the concluded agreement will work to prevent Hamas from returning to ruling the Gaza Strip and managing it by an international force.
Olmert said that Israel has underestimated the Palestinians for decades, by leaving their problem unresolved in the belief that things will be under control.
Olmert added that the Israeli government believed that it was smarter than the Palestinians and underestimated them, which later caused a crisis and the eventual attack on the settlements by the Palestinians.
Olmert referred to the situation on the border between Israel and Lebanon, saying that an agreement could be reached with the Lebanese government under which Hezbollah would withdraw beyond the Litani River.
