After the warning: Noga’s board of directors discusses the removal of CEO Shaul Goldstein

The board of directors of the “Noga” company, which manages the electricity sector in Israel, met today (Sunday) to discuss the continued employment of CEO Shaul Goldstein, three days after he warned of a widespread power outage in Israel.

The board of directors discussed, among other things, Goldstein’s statements and everything that happened afterwards, according to a company source. According to him, later this week there will be another meeting where a decision is expected to be made regarding the CEO’s statements.

As I recall, at the INSS conference last Thursday, Goldstein said that “Nasrallah could easily bring down the electricity grid in Israel.” He also said: “After 72 hours without electricity in Israel – it will be impossible to live here, we are in a bad situation and are not ready for a real war.”

This immediately drew criticism of him from the Minister of Energy Eli Cohen and the CEO of the electricity company Meir Spiegler. Cohen said: “Israel will not be in trouble, if there is a power outage of hours in Israel, there will be a power outage of months in Lebanon.” Spiegler also responded as stated: An irresponsible statement, disconnected from reality and creating panic among the public.” The company said that “the words do not represent the professional assessments”.

Senior officials in the energy sector point out that it is appropriate to deal with the problems raised by Goldstein, to examine the reasons for the electricity sector’s unpreparedness for emergency situations and the steps required to improve assessments. They claim that the very discussion of his impeachment constitutes “a choice to sweep the problem under the carpet” and “shoot the messenger”.

Another source in the energy sector told “Israel Today” after the publication: “It is strange that after October 7 they choose to depose the whistleblower at the gate instead of trying to check their claims. Even if Goldstein expressed himself in an extreme manner, and perhaps irresponsibly, it is worth dealing with the essence and not the style, especially against the background of the fact All the security forces support his position. In the end, we have to deal with the question of whether there are really going to be prolonged power outages here or not.”

Eitan Ferns, CEO of the Israel Renewable Energy Companies Association: “Shaul Goldstein said what everyone knows in the electricity sector. What he did not say is that there is an available and immediate solution under the lamp, which is not implemented. It is possible to turn any solar system on a roof into one that stores electricity and can provide electricity to those below it in an emergency, that the kibbutzim in Israel can tomorrow morning become a micro-grid (energy island) and thus also survive during an electrical crisis and also reduce the load on the national grid.

“Storage can be immediately integrated into thousands of sites in Israeli cities that will function as centers of resilience and serve the population in times of emergency. Especially since all these things do not happen and no one gets up in the morning and asks why? In January, the National Council approved an exemption from the building permit for the placement of electricity storage batteries, after a plan approval process A national outline that lasted over a year. It’s already been half a year and the minister of the interior still hasn’t signed the exemption regulations and the field is blocked and can’t go forward. Maybe someone will look for the pen with the same enthusiasm to sign the regulations and allow the people of Israel to save electricity?”
