UPDATE: Over 132,000 Consumers Energy customers in Michigan are without power as of 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 15. Another 11,000 Great Lakes Energy customers have no power. Counties with significant outages include Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, Ionia, Kalamazoo, Kent, Mecosta, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Ottawa and Van Buren.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Nearly 90,000 Consumers Energy customers, primarily in West Michigan, are without power Tuesday, June 25, in a thunderstorm that is bringing strong winds, rain and lightning to the state.
Most of the outages are in Kent (41,039), Muskegon (33,472), Kalamazoo (10,121) and Ottawa (8,235) counties.
“Crews will be working through the day today to restore power, focusing on assessing damage and restoring critical customers first. Lineworkers can work as long as 16 hours at a time, and work will continue until power is restored to everyone,” Consumers said in a statement.

Roads have been shut down in Muskegon County because of downed power lines. Eastbound M-46 (Apple Avenue) between Moorland and Ravenna roads is closed because of downed wires.
Norton Shores police reported eastbound Seaway Drive at Hoyt Street is closed because of downed wires. Westbound Seaway Drive at Seminole Road has downed lines, too. Police urged caution at that intersection. Wellesley Drive is closed between Randall and Quainton roads because of a tree and power lines across the road.
A crash has closed northbound U.S. 31 after Riley-Thompson Road in Muskegon County.
At 7:20 a.m., the National Weather Service said on X: “The good news is that the storms are gradually weakening, but they are still severe and may be producing gusts to 60 mph. I-94 and I-69 corridors, you’re up next!”

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been in effect for much of West Michigan. The weather service said that the storm caused widespread wind damage across Wisconsin, with 70-mph gusts, before moving to Michigan.
As of 7 a.m., 89,879 Consumers Energy customers were without power. Other counties with outages include Allegan (1,535), Ionia, (1,192), and Oceana (1,696).
