Bolivian President: The country is facing a military coup News

|

Bolivian President Luis Arce announced that the country is facing a military coup, after storming the entrance to the National Palace in Bolivia, and soldiers entered the presidential building, while the president condemned the movements of some army units.

Bolivian General Zuniga confirmed that political prisoners, including former interim president Anez, would be released.

Reuters previously quoted a military general in Bolivia as saying that there will be a new government in the country, but he indicated, however, that the army still recognizes the president as commander of the army.

The agency reported that video clips spread on social media showed heavily armed soldiers and armored vehicles gathering in Plaza Murillo square in the capital.

In a post on X, Bolivian President Luis Arce on Wednesday denounced the irregular mobilization of some units of the country’s army, as the former leader of the Andean nation accused a top general of plotting a coup.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent said that former Bolivian President Evo Morales warned that the army would launch a military coup.
