Nine Players from 2024-25 Big 12 Membership Chosen in NBA Draft

Nine players from 2024-25 Big 12 institutions were selected in the 2024 NBA Draft conducted from ESPN studios in New York City. Returning legacy member Colorado had three players chosen, including two in the first round. Baylor and Kansas had two selections each with both of the Bears’ in the opening round. Houston and incoming member Arizona tallied one apiece.

Taken 19th overall by the Toronto Raptors, Ja’Kobe Walter gave BU its fourth-straight top-20 pick, one of two schools in the nation to boast that distinction, and the only institution with a top-19 pick in four-straight drafts. Two picks later at No. 21, Yves Missi was taken by the New Orleans Pelicans.

Colorado’s Cody Williams was taken as a lottery pick at No. 10 by the Utah Jazz. Tristan da Silva heard his name called at No. 18 by the Orlando Magic as Colorado and Baylor were two of three schools nationally to have multiple selections in the first round. The Buffaloes added a third selection in the second round with KJ Simpson picked No. 42 by the Charlotte Hornets.



Two Kansas players heard their names called in the second round. Johnny Furphy was the 35th overall selection and Kevin McCullar was selected 56th overall. Furphy was selected by the San Antonio Spurs and his pick was later part of a proposed trade with the Indiana Pacers. McCullar was selected by the Phoenix Suns and was then part of a proposed trade to the New York Knicks.



Big 12 Male Athlete of the Year and Men’s Basketball Player of the Year Jamal Shead of Houston was taken at 45th by the Sacramento Kings with a proposed trade to the Toronto Raptors. Arizona also had a second-round selection with Pelle Larsson going at No. 44 to the Miami Heat via a proposed trade.



This year’s draft marked the 27th time in 28 seasons for the Big 12 to produce first-round picks. Overall, 97 Big 12 players have been chosen in the past 17 drafts. A total of 144 Conference players have been selected since the first league season in 1996-97.
