Pyramids FC’s legal advisor, Ahmed El-Washahi, requested that the result of their match against Smouha be considered a 2-0 win.
The match between Smouha and Pyramids was stopped yesterday evening, Friday, after 4 minutes of the second half, after the first half ended with a goal for each team. Smouha took the lead after 15 minutes from a penalty kick taken by Hossam Hassan, then Pyramids equalized with a goal scored by Fiston Mayele, while the referee showed the red card to Smouha goalkeeper El-Hany Soliman in the 45+8 minute before the match was cancelled due to a fire that broke out in one of the lighting towers in the main box of the stadium.
The legal advisor of Pyramids Club indicated, in an official statement issued today, Saturday, that the events that occurred during the club’s match with Smouha at Alexandria Stadium fall within the responsibilities of the team that owns the home ground and stadium, and its legal responsibility here is an assumed responsibility that cannot be denied by proving that no error was committed.
Al-Washahi continued: “What happened in the match falls within the cases that require the team that owns the stadium to be considered defeated with a score of 2/0, and not among the cases of force majeure that entail a replay of the match, and therefore, according to the competition regulations, the Smouha team must be considered defeated and the Pyramids club must be considered the winner.” With a score of 2/0.”
He added: “The situation is completely clear and simple, and there is no complexity, conflict, or diligence in it, and does not require any other explanations. The situation is a power outage, and according to the text of the regulations, it is not considered a compelling circumstance.”
The Pyramids Club’s legal advisor indicated that the reason behind canceling the match was the low lighting in the stadium as well as the power outage, and not force majeure circumstances, as one of the lighting columns in the stadium malfunctioned due to the power outage, and as a result, visibility in the stadium became impossible and it was declared ” “silhouettes” due to poor lighting,
Al-Washhani concluded his statements by saying: “Based on the established facts that occurred, Pyramids Club officially requested that Smouha Club be considered the loser in the match and that the club be considered the winner with a score of 2/0 in accordance with paragraph 3/A of Article 42 of the Competitions Regulations, which stipulates that in the event of a power outage for 45 continuous or intermittent minutes in matches played under lights or in the event of low lighting that prevents the match referee from completing the match, the team that owns the stadium shall be considered the loser with a score of 2/0, regardless of the result of the match, and the power outage shall not be considered a force majeure.”
