Romania vs Netherlands

The Dutch have lost their last three knockout matches at the European Championship, losing 2-1 to Portugal in the 2004 semi-final, 1-3 to Russia in the 2008 quarter-final and 0-2 to the Czech Republic in the 2020 last 16 semi-final.

If the Windmills lose today, they could become only the second team to lose four consecutive knockout matches in the tournament’s history, after Yugoslavia from 1968 to 2000.

This will be only the second meeting ever in a major tournament between Romania And the Netherlands, where the Oranje won 2-0 in the group stage at Euro 2008.

Romania have won just one of their 14 matches against the Netherlands in all competitions, drawing three and losing 10, and have lost their last four matches in a row since a 1-0 win in a European Championship qualifier in October 2007.

Romania scored only three goals in those 14 matches, while conceding 29 goals.

Romania have reached the knockout stage of a major tournament for the first time since Euro 2000, when they were knocked out in the quarter-finals by Italy.

Romania have only qualified from one knockout match in a major competition, beating Argentina 3-2 in the round of 16 of the 1994 World Cup.

This will be Romania’s 20th European Championship match, making them the 16th team to reach that total in the finals. They have won just two of their 19 matches so far (D6 L12), previously the fewest wins by any nation in their first 20 matches in the competition was four by Switzerland.
