Trump’s luxury tower in Saudi Arabia… and fears of a “conflict of interest”

The Trump Organization has signed an agreement with a leading Saudi real estate development company to launch a new tower project in Jeddah called Trump Tower Jeddah.

The organization revealed plans to develop the luxury Trump Tower in Jeddah in partnership with Dar Global, the international branch of Saudi real estate giant Dar Al Arkan.

If completed, the Jeddah Tower will be the Trump Organization’s first major project in Saudi Arabia, according to “CNN”.

“We are thrilled to expand our footprint in the Middle East and bring the Trump standard of luxury to the region through our long-standing relationship with Dar Global,” said Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and son of former President Donald Trump.

Dar Global said the project will target “the Saudi luxury market and international investors.”

The new project in the Kingdom comes just days after the Trump Organization and Dar Global unveiled a $500 million Trump International hotel complex in Oman.

The Trump Organization’s new projects in the Middle East raise concerns about potential conflicts of interest, should the former president return to the White House.

“The Trump Organization’s continued pursuit of foreign business ventures raises national security, corruption and constitutional concerns,” Donald Sherman, vice president and senior counsel at Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), told CNN.

The Trump Organization is owned by a private trust that lists the former president as the sole beneficiary. The family business is run by his sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump.

Last year, a New York judge fined the Trump Organization $1.6 million for running a decade-long tax fraud scheme. Two Trump entities were convicted of 17 felonies, including tax fraud and falsifying business records.

Trump has close ties to Saudi Arabia even after leaving the White House.

Last April, American media revealed a call between him and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

The New York Times said at the time that Trump and Mohammed bin Salman’s discussions came at a time when the administration of US President Joe Biden was engaged in sensitive negotiations with the Saudis aimed at establishing a lasting peace in the Middle East, based on the normalization agreements between Israel and a number of Arab countries that were established during the Trump administration.

In 2022, a group of families of 9/11 victims who have long accused Saudi Arabia of aiding the terrorists who carried out the attacks criticized the former president for hosting a Saudi-backed golf tournament at a course he owns in New Jersey.
