moment of truth. Gymnast Artyom Dolgopiat, one of Israel’s greatest athletes of all time, will take the field tomorrow (Saturday, starting at 12:00) at the Olympic Games in Paris with the ultimate goal being clear – to retain the Olympic title.
The 27-year-old Dolgopiat will enter the gates of Bercy Arena located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, one of the most beautiful venues in Europe that has known many beautiful moments in Israeli sports. He will go up first to perform a clean ground exercise in the qualifiers, so that at the end of the evening he can secure a place among the first eight who go up to the final which will be held on August 3.
Israel’s top gymnast arrives at the important competition after a good preparation period and a series of achievements. In the last real test, at the European Championships held in Italy in April, he ended his strong floor exercise with the silver medal.
If that’s not enough, he also comes as the reigning world champion after securing the gold medal in the competition held in Antwerp, Belgium. This competition took place on October 7, when at the same time as the surprise attack by the Hamas terrorists, he managed to excite the country a little.
Dolgopiat did his last preparation for the games in Israel when he also participated in the Israeli championship. There in the floor exercise he received an impressive score of 15.2 points – a score that on any given day should be enough for a place on the Olympic podium.
Even when he arrived in Paris at the beginning of the week, he managed to do several training sessions and looked good, when according to the atmosphere in the delegation and in the industry, everyone seems satisfied with his condition. So how is the competition format? 96 gymnasts were divided into three groups, and on Saturday they will perform the qualifying exercises on six devices: parallel bars, tension, floor, pommel horse, rings and pommel horse. Dolgopiat who was drawn to be in mixed house number 5 with gymnasts from Iran, Brazil and Croatia. Scheduled to be the first house to compete, starting at 12:00 Israel time.
