The opening ceremony of the Olympics: the Christians are angry, the representative of France apologized

The opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics last night (Friday) was particularly spectacular, in what was a form of compensation for the previous Olympics in Tokyo, which took place under the restrictions of the Corona. The five-hour long event was held under the motto of Shivin, where alongside the history of Olympic sports and of France – he strove to give expression to as many shades as possible in the global human fabric. Unfortunately, one gesture made with this goal in mind managed to piss off quite a few people around the globe.

Oren Samadja opens his heart: “I want to be in the Olympics like Oren was before the disaster”

One part of the ceremony included an homage to Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic painting The Last Supper, which depicts the last time Jesus dined with his disciples before being judged before the Sanhedrin and crucified by Pontius Pilate. This is of course a founding event in the Christian religion. During the show, the painting was recreated by a human performance of drag artists, infuriating the global Christian community.

Many surfers on social networks from all over the world, and not only Christians, expressed their harsh criticism of the gesture and claimed that it was disrespectful, sacrilege and denigration of religion. The official X (former Twitter) account of the Catholic Universities in Spanish tweeted: “Sodom and Gomorrah is televised and watched by tens of millions of people live. The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 is a demonstration of the ugliness of evil. With this blasphemy they want to laugh at All Catholics”.

The representative of France in the European Parliament, Marion Marichel, tweeted during the ceremony: “To all the Christians in the world who are watching the opening ceremony and felt insulted by this drag queen parody of the Last Supper, know that it is not France that is speaking, but a left-wing minority that is ready for any provocation.”

Beyond the divisive event, the opening ceremony included a host of cultural and sports legends. Lady Gaga appeared at the beginning of the event, Snoop Dogg, Zinedine Zidane, Rafael Nadal and Sirena Williams took part in carrying the torch and the one who closed the ceremony was none other than Celine Dion, who made a comeback to the stage, after she stopped performing recently due to a serious illness.
