The Egyptian Olympic football team bid farewell to the Paris 2024 Olympics, with a heavy loss to its Moroccan counterpart in the third place match (bronze medal).
The Egyptian national team lost to its Moroccan counterpart (0-6) this evening, Thursday, in the match to determine the winner of the bronze medal in the football competitions at the Paris Olympics.
Olympic semi-final curse hits Egypt
This is the third time that the Egyptian team has reached the semi-finals of the Olympics.
The Egyptian team suffers from the “semi-final curse” in the Olympics, as it loses in the semi-finals every time, and has only finished fourth on the three occasions.
In the Amsterdam 1928 edition, the Egyptian team lost (0-6) to Argentina in the semi-final, then fell (3-11) to Italy in the bronze match.
Also in Tokyo 1964, the Egyptian team suffered a heavy defeat (0-6) against Hungary in the semi-finals, before losing (1-3) to Germany in the third and fourth place match.
Before losing to Morocco in the bronze match in the current edition, the Pharaohs had lost in the semi-final (1-3) to France, in a match that extended to extra time.
It is worth noting that the Egyptian national team participated in the Olympic football competitions 13 times, was eliminated in the first round 6 times, and in the quarter-finals on 4 occasions, in addition to reaching the semi-finals on 3 occasions.
