Simply huge: Ami Dedown won a second gold medal at the Paralympic Games in Paris

The Paralympic champion has done it again. Ami Dedown won his second gold medal tonight (Tuesday) at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 in the 200 meter freestyle (S4) – which he also won in Tokyo 3 years ago. With a result of 2:49.26 minutes, Dedown achieved the third medal in the French capital and the sixth of his career in the Paralympic Games.

Dedown, who holds the world record and the Paralympic record, competed this morning in the qualifiers and finished in first place with a time of 2:52.30 minutes, seven seconds away from second place. Ariel Maliar came last in both heats and did not advance to the finals.

This is the seventh medal in total for Israel in the Paralympic Games, the same amount that was also achieved in the Olympic Games in the French capital. As you may remember, in addition to Deadon, there is also the gold of the taekwondo fighter Assaf Yassour and the rower Moran Samuel, a bronze for the swimmer Mark Maliar and the pair of rowers Shahar Millfelder and Salah Shahin.

Orit Ilon Friedman, CEO of ILAN, who is currently accompanying the team to the games in Paris: “In addition to being a talented athlete at all levels, Ami is the salt of the earth and his love for the State of Israel is evident in all his limbs. Ami has once again proven to the world, to the State of Israel and especially to himself that he is a champion and he is An example and example of determination and excellence.

This is the third medal of my people at the Paralympic Games in Paris and it is very gratifying in the days when all of us in the State of Israel are in such need of good and positive news during the current hardship. We are proud of all the athletes of the delegation and love them very much and thank Yaakov Beinanson, the swimming team coach, for his considerable investment in his life’s work – our swimmers.”
