The Minister of Housing follows up on the implementation status of “Fustat Hills Park” in a central location in the heart of historic Cairo
Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, followed up on the implementation status of the “Telal Park” project. FustatIn Cairo Governorate, which is adjacent to the Museum of Civilization, Ain El Sira Lake, the Religious Complex, and Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque, it is considered one of the largest parks in the Middle East, which is being implemented on an area of about 500 acres, in a central location in the heart of historic Cairo.
The Minister of Housing explained that “Fustat Hills Park” includes 8 areas and has 14 gates (main and secondary gates that vary between contemporary gates, historical gates, and garden gates), and consideration was given to increasing green spaces.
It also includes a number of activities that depend on reviving the Egyptian heritage throughout the various Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic and modern eras, and restores consideration to religious and cultural tourism, and creates a new outlet for the people of Cairo, in line with the state’s efforts to confront climate change and protect the environment, and is implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction, through Greater Cairo Development Authority.
In the same context, Major General Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, Dr. Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs, and Engineer Amin Ghoneim, Vice President of… New Urban Communities Authority The Development and Urban Development Sector, Eng. Amr Khattab, General Manager of the Minister’s Technical Office, and officials of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, held a meeting to review the implementation status of the “Fustat Hills Park” project in detail.
It also addresses any obstacles or problems that may face implementation, and takes the necessary decisions to push the completion rates and complete the project on time, in implementation of the directives of the Minister of Housing.
Major General Mahmoud Nassar, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, explained that the implementation of the park comes within the framework of the state’s efforts to develop historic Cairo, provide parks for citizens, and increase the individual’s share of green spaces and public spaces, noting that the cultural area in the park is located opposite the main entrance gate on Salah Salem Road, and is one of the distinctive areas, and has a main axis to the Museum of Civilization, and is surrounded by a group of squares that include cultural activities, restaurants, and other services, and it is scheduled to hold celebrations throughout the year, and the scope of work in the cultural area includes the main gate, 4 restaurants and cafeterias with an area of 216 m2, 3 fountains, and infrastructure and agricultural works for an area of 26,864 m2.
He added: The park also includes the hills and valley area. The hills area is divided into 3 hills of varying heights, between which the waterway (river) passes. It is graded in a group of terraces starting from the river’s edge and ending at the top of the hill, so that the top of the hills overlooks the project, the surrounding area, Saladin’s Citadel and the pyramids. The “Qasaba Hill”, built on an area of 13,000 square meters, includes a tourist hotel, service buildings, parking lots, an artificial lake, terraces and seating areas overlooking the waterfall, a pedestrian bridge for connection, a cafeteria, and a waterfall. The “Heritage Gardens Hill” includes terraces and buildings for visitors, restaurants, and a wooden space overlooking the lake, showing the detailed plans for those hills and what they contain of paths and various gardens, and areas for restaurants, celebrations and entertainment.
Major General Mahmoud Nassar stated that the “Hafaer Hill” is being worked on by the executive body for the renovation of the Islamic and Fatimid neighborhoods of Cairo, with the aim of discovering and revealing the first Islamic capital of Egypt, “the old city of Fustat,” so that the area becomes an integrated cultural and touristic archaeological site by uncovering the remains of the city of Fustat over an area of about 47 acres to reach the architectural formation of the archaeological city and restore it, uncovering the remains of the wall of Salah al-Din al-Ayyubi, and inventorying and collecting the discovered archaeological pieces and restoring them, then scientifically publishing what will be discovered, with the implementation of a 1 km long and 1.5 meter high walkway from the excavation area around the archaeological city of Fustat (Hafaer) to connect the tourist service buildings to the general site, to invest in the heritage area as a tourist area with a distinctive character.
The head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction said: “Fustat Hills Park” also includes an investment area with an area of 131 thousand square meters overlooking Ain Al-Hayat Lake, and includes 12 restaurants, 4 shopping centers, and 4 car garages, and behind it is an area that allows for holding many celebrations.
