In such an atmosphere 30 years ago, the First National Bank Stadium in South Africa hosted the African Super Cup match between the two giants of Egyptian football, Al-Ahly and Zamalek, with Ayman Mansour’s rocket goal against Shobier writing a historic title for the Whites.
The 1994 African Super Cup title against Al-Ahly remains the most precious in the career of Sami El-Shishini, the former Zamalek player and one of Mahmoud El-Gohary’s key players in the match, according to what he told Masrawy in exclusive statements.
Al-Gohary started the match against Al-Ahly with a lineup consisting of Hussein Al-Sayed in goal, Hussein Abdel Latif, Hesham Yakan, Talaat Mansour and Ashraf Youssef in defence, Ismail Youssef, Efat Nassar, Sami Al-Shishini and Khaled Al-Ghandour in midfield, and the attack was led by the duo Emmanuel and Ayman Mansour.
This match had a special character for Sami El-Shishini, because it was against Al-Ahly and the first match against Reda Abdel Aal, after his departure from the Whites and joining the traditional rival, so he wanted to prove that Zamalek is a big club that does not depend on anyone, and he took these reasons as a motivation to achieve the title.
On the other hand, El-Gohary was leading the first match against Al-Ahly, and traveled with his team to South Africa to prepare for the final, 10 days ago. On the other hand, Al-Ahly traveled only three days ago. El-Sheshiny believes that traveling early was in Zamalek’s favor, because they were able to get used to the lack of oxygen. He described the matter by saying: “We traveled early and played before that with the South African Kaizer Chiefs, and we got used to the situation and the atmosphere and prepared with special arrangements and El-Gohary’s tactics, and the oxygen helped us to win.”
