The Israeli army said on Tuesday that it would choose an appropriate time to “demonstrate our precise and sudden attack capabilities” after the Iranian attack, and that Israel had “proven its ability to prevent the enemy from achieving anything.”
The Israeli army spokesman, Avichay Adraee, announced that there were no other threats from Iran in the airspace, noting that Israel had intercepted “a good number of rocket shells.”
Adraee added, “There is no information about casualties,” noting that the army is in “great defensive and offensive readiness.” He considered the attack dangerous and “will have repercussions,” as he put it.
The Israeli spokesman’s statements came minutes after Iran fired dozens of missiles at Israel. The Israeli army allowed residents to leave shelters throughout Israel, according to what Reuters said.
Airport authorities in Israel also reopened the airspace, and announced the resumption of take-offs and landings in the coming hours.
On the other hand, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that the missile attack on Israel on Tuesday comes in response to the assassination of Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah last week, and the head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, last July.
He said in a statement published by the Fars News Agency, “In response to the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, Hassan Nasrallah, and Abbas Nilvorshan, we targeted the heart of the occupied territories (Israel).”
Earlier on Tuesday, the United States warned Israel that Iran was preparing to launch a missile attack “very soon,” stressing its readiness to support Israel in defending itself against the Iranian attack.
US President Joe Biden said, “This morning, I held a meeting of our national security team to discuss Iranian plans to launch an imminent missile attack against Israel. We discussed how the United States is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks, and protect American personnel in the region.”
