Books – Muhammad Abu Bakr:

The new Bashteel station is one of the most important strategic projects in the transportation sector, and its location is located in a strategic place that connects a number of different means of transportation. Including railways, the third subway line, monorail, and frequent buses on the ring road.

The station aims to provide an integrated service to the passenger public. Which makes it one of the interchange stations linking Cairo to the governorates of Upper Egypt.

The geographical location of the station allows connectivity with four main axes: It is the General Kamal Amer axis, the Sudan Street axis, the Ahmed Orabi axis, the Airport Street, and the 26 July axis.

The location of the Bashteel station was chosen due to its location in a central area between the Ramses and Giza railway stations, and considering that Giza Governorate is a gateway to Upper Egypt, and is distinguished by its location at the intersection of the main railway lines. Such as the High Dam Line, the Alexandria-Imbaba Line, the Manashy Line, and the Qabbari Line. In addition, Ramses Station does not accommodate expansion at the present time due to large congestion. This made it necessary to establish a Bashtil station to relieve pressure.

The area of Bashteel station is 57 acres, equivalent to three times the area of Ramses station, and the station includes multiple facilities. It includes tractor and wagon workshops, warehouses, a multi-storey garage, a commercial mall, and investment parts. The station is characterized by being fully air-conditioned with a central air conditioning system, with a garage that can accommodate 1,100 cars, and serves passengers through 28 ticket counters.

Bashtil station is also part of an integrated network that includes the third metro line, monorail, and high-speed electric train, in addition to Superjet buses, which makes access to it convenient, whether by metro or via the Orabi axis, which connects the station to Sphinx Square in just 3 minutes.

The station’s capacity reaches 250,000 passengers per day. This reflects its ability to serve a large number of passengers heading to the governorates of Upper Egypt, and the station is built on three floors.

Bashtil station comes within the government’s plan to develop the railway infrastructure and facilitate passenger movement between Cairo and Upper Egypt, at a total cost of 2.5 billion pounds.
