A month after her death… Nicole Kidman holds her mother’s funeral

Although Nicole Kidman’s mother passed away about a month ago, specifically on the closing day of the 2024 Venice International Film Festival, her funeral was not held until today, as it was a simple ceremony in the presence of family members, and sadness hung in the air, especially for Kidman, her sister, and her children. Who seemed deeply affected by the loss of their mother and grandmother, and were still in mourning.

Her mother Janelle’s funeral was held today in Sydney, at St. Francis Xavier Church in Lavender Bay, where Nicole appeared clearly tired and sad, amid noticeable support from her husband, Australian singer Keith Urban.

Kidman crossed the threshold of the church wearing a long black coat and sunglasses, holding her husband’s hand. Her two daughters, Sunday Rose (16 years old) and Faith Margaret (14 years old), participated in the audience, in addition to her sister Antonia (54 years old).

Interestingly, her two eldest children, Bella and Connor, did not attend the funeral.

Close friends of the family also attended the funeral, such as TV presenter Richard Wilkins and his girlfriend, but what was striking was the absence of any celebrities from this ceremony.

Kidman was absent from the closing ceremony of the Venice International Film Festival, which was held on September 7, due to the death of her mother, moments before she won the Best Actress award for her role in the movie “Baby Girl.”

Despite her absence, Kidman entrusted the task of reading her speech to the film’s director, Halina Regin, who announced the death of her mother, Janelle, at the age of 83. In her speech, Kidman said: “When I arrived in Venice, I discovered that my beautiful and brave mother had been lost.” . She added: “I am in shock and I need to be with my family, but this award is for her. She was my source of inspiration.”

She concluded her speech by saying: “I am grateful to be able to mention her name before you. Life and art collide painfully, and my heart is broken.” (Nawaem)
