North Korea confirms the bombing of roads linking it to its southern neighbor

North Korea confirmed on Wednesday that it had blown up roads and railway lines linking it to the “enemy state” South Korea, thus confirming what Seoul announced on Tuesday.

The official North Korean news agency said that these roads, which were previously used for trade between the two countries, have become “completely closed by explosions,” according to what was reported by Agence France-Presse.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said, on Tuesday, that “North Korea blew up parts of the Gyeonggi and Donghae Roads north of the military demarcation line,” in a new episode in the series of escalating tensions between the two countries.

The South Korean army published video clips showing North Korean forces blowing up parts of both lanes of the road and excavators in one of them.

South Korea’s Unification Ministry denounced the “totally abnormal” provocation, noting that it was Seoul that largely financed the construction of these roads.
