Liam Payne, a former member of the band “One Direction”, was killed at the age of 31, after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in the trendy Palermo neighborhood in the Argentine capital.
Buenos Aires police confirmed – in an official statement – the death of the British singer, composer and guitarist after he fell from the balcony. Alberto Crescente, head of the emergency medical system, explained that Payne fell in an inner courtyard of the hotel.
The incident was discovered after hotel employees called the authorities for fear of the actions of Payne, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, which caused major damage to his room. The staff indicated their fear that Payne would do another dangerous act, especially with a balcony in his room.
When the emergency team arrived, it was confirmed that Payne had died as a result of the severe injuries he sustained as a result of the fall, and it was not possible to provide any first aid to save him. The authorities are still investigating the circumstances of the accident and awaiting the results of the autopsy.
After announcing his death, hundreds of fans gathered in front of the hotel in a state of sadness and shock, expressing their feelings in tears and mutual support.
Payne was in Argentina with his former bandmate Neil Horan, who performed a concert at Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires on October 2. The deceased was seen at the concert interacting with Horan’s fans by singing and dancing.
This singer was born in Wolverhampton, England, and appeared for the first time on the British “X Factor” program in 2008 when he was 14 years old, where he performed Frank Sinatra’s song “Fly Me to the Moon.” Jury member Simon Cowell advised him at the time to focus on his studies and come back later, which is what happened.
Payne returned in the 2010 edition of the program as part of the band “One Direction,” which was formed during the program and included his colleagues Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Neil Horan, and Zayn Malik. Despite finishing third, the band signed a contract with Coil Records and began world tours the following year, achieving tremendous success.
Despite the great success of the band, which sold more than 70 million copies around the world, the members of One Direction decided to continue their career individually after their indefinite separation in 2016.
