Iran denies statements by Qalibaf related to “interference in Lebanese affairs”

On Friday, the Iranian Parliament denied what was attributed to its president Muhammad Baqir QalibafAbout negotiating with France regarding Lebanon.

He stressed in a statement, reported by the Iranian Tasnim News Agency, that “what was attributed to the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mr. Qalibaf, by some media outlets is completely incorrect.”

He added: “His positions regarding the current developments in Lebanon did not differ from those he expressed during his speech at the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, during his recent visit to Lebanon, and also during his interviews with the media.”

The Parliament stressed that Tehran supports everything that the Lebanese “government and resistance” agree to to achieve a sustainable ceasefire.

The statement continued that Tehran’s positions are “clear and frank”, and are represented in its support for everything approved by the Lebanese people, their government, and the resistance, to achieve a permanent truce. Stating: “This is the position that was also confirmed in Qalibaf’s meeting with Mr. Mikati.”

Parliament concluded its statement by saying: “It is natural that no party is under the illusion that a sustainable political settlement can be reached without the approval of the resistance. Based on this, Iran can be ready to cooperate with Europe to support any truce that is approved by the resistance and the Lebanese government.”

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati denounced statements attributed to Ghalibaf regarding Iran’s negotiations with France regarding Resolution 1701 related to Lebanon.

Mikati considered that Qalibaf’s statement “constitutes a scandalous interference in Lebanese affairs, and an attempt to establish an unacceptable guardianship over Lebanon.”

He continued, “The subject of negotiation is to implement International Resolution 1701 The Lebanese state is responsible for it, and everyone is required to support it in this direction, not to seek to impose new guardianships that are rejected by all national and sovereign considerations.”
