A few minutes ago it was allowed to be published that Alexey Popov, 50 years old from Kiryat Haim, is the one killed in the attack in Acre. He left behind a wife and two children in Ukraine.

Popov was driving his car together with another person on road 22, while an alarm sounded in the Acre area today (Saturday) at noon. He stopped, but did not have time to get out of the vehicle and was hit in the upper body by shrapnel.

According to the police, a number of falls were detected in the Acre area, in Kibbutz Ein Hamfaretz and on Route 22 near the commercial center in Ein Hamfaretz.

When the team of paramedics and MDA medics arrived at the scene, Popov’s injury was determined to be fatal, but after a few minutes they had to declare the car driver dead. His friend, who was sitting next to him, was hit by shrapnel and was taken to the Legil Medical Center in Nahariya for further treatment in a moderately conscious condition.

Senior MDA medic Alex Motzkin: “We arrived at the scene and saw a vehicle that was standing on the side of the road and was hit by many pieces of shrapnel and that the names were shattered and the shops around were destroyed. The vehicle was driven by a man about 50 years old and a man in his 40s was sitting next to him, he told us that while the alarm sounded, they stopped on the side of the road and suddenly heard an explosion before they could get out of the vehicle. The car driver did not have time to bend down and the passenger next to him bent down and put his head between his knees. As a result of the shrapnel, the driver of the car was mortally wounded in his upper body and after a short time we had to pronounce him dead. The passenger who was next to him left the vehicle fully conscious and suffering from a scratch from a piece of shrapnel near his ear. We gave him medical treatment and evacuated him to the hospital when his condition was light and stable, we saw with our eyes the importance of obeying the directives of the frontline command, in this case also the one who did not have time to get out of the vehicle bent over and thus his life was saved.’
