Manchester City, who beat Wolves earlier today, is not the only one who ran away to Arsenal after they lost 2:0 at Bournemouth. Exactly one week before she is hosted by them, Liverpool opened a gap of four points from the Gunners tonight (Sunday) with 1:2 over Chelsea. In doing so, she secured another week at the top and is ahead of City by a point.
After two chaotic years, Chelsea look much better this season. However, she gave a host of gifts to Liverpool’s defense and showed that she still has a long way to go before being considered a title contender again. The hosts at Anfield received two penalties in the first half for uncommitted fouls in the box. Luckily for her, one of the penalties was canceled and Liverpool went to the break “only” with 0:1. Mohamed Salah, once again, was the one to score against the former.
Chelsea came back in the second half with a goal from Nicholas Jackson, one of the more surprising strikers in England since the start of the season. Unfortunately, the tie lasted only three minutes, until Salah scored the winning goal for Curtis Jones in the 51st minute. This is also some kind of lesson that Enzo Maresca’s team, which is currently ranked sixth, will have to learn for the next meetings against the top teams – the teams that they once looked down on.
