After years of legal procrastination and investigations, yesterday (Wednesday) morning, former Hanesat member Dr. Michael Ben Ari arrived at the Magistrate’s Court in Kfar Saba for the reading of the indictment filed against him by the prosecutor’s office. “This indictment is not against me. This indictment puts Zionism and its most basic values on the dock.”
The indictment charges Dr. Ben-Ari with offenses of inciting racism, because of many publications in which “Ben-Ari used to define Israeli Arabs in a general way as “enemies” and “fifth cousins”, attribute negative and violent characteristics to them, and call for their exclusion from Israeli society”.
The indictment comes after six years of legal torture during which Ben Ari was interrogated for a number of publications on the social network Twitter and other places where he came out against Arab terrorism and emphasized the need to fight it. Attached to the indictment is a confirmation from the prosecutor Gali Beharev – Miara which confirms the filing of the indictment.
Simultaneously with the filing of the indictment about three months ago against Ben Ari, the prosecutor’s office filed an indictment with “Izon” for crimes of incitement to violence against Yonatan Pollak, who published an article on the website of the “Haaretz” newspaper in which he wrote, among other things: “Yes, we must cross the lines and break the law Despite the price, we must join the children of the stones and the Molotov cocktails.
In court, Dr. Ben Ari said: “This indictment is an existential danger, this gagging is dangerous far beyond the values of freedom of expression. It prevents us from seeing the enemy, it forbids us to see the enemy. It is forbidden to warn him. The prosecutor’s office collected against me a ‘accumulation’ of times that I said we were dealing with a murderous nation. 20 or 30 times.
