Books – Marwan Al-Tayeb:

The artist Omar Mustafa Metwally spoke about the reason behind his withdrawal from participating in the play “Misr Theater”, and whether the reason was a dispute between him and the artist Ashraf Abdel Baqi, which he denied.

Omar Mustafa Metwally was a guest on the radio program “Radio Laughs,” which is broadcast on “Radio 90 90,” presented by Fatima Mustafa Ali. During his talk, he talked about his artistic projects during the coming period, and the reason behind his apology for participating in the movie “Shams El Zanati,” and his withdrawal from the film. “Egypt Theater”, along with behind the scenes and secrets revealed for the first time.

Regarding his apology for participating in “Misr Theater” and the rumors of his dispute with the artist Ashraf Abdel Baqi, he said: “He is better than Ashraf Abdel Baqi. Can you imagine someone staying working with him for 5 years and then disagreeing with him a lot? We used to disagree with him every rehearsal and we would sit around joking.” We laugh 5 minutes later, and you don’t remember what we were talking about? The relationship between this band, in particular, between me and Ashraf, was like a relationship. Family, because the success of this Egyptian theater does not come within a group that fights a lot. It is impossible. I was attending the movie The Titans at the time, and by the way, this publicity was posted on Instagram. I still have it, but we will have to repeat it because Rajaa Al-Jeddawi, Lubna Mahmoud, and Maha Abu Auf, the three of them have passed away, to God’s mercy, and the movie He was also in a place alone, and his story was me and a bus driver with 10 women over 70. “And it will come back from the beginning.”

He continued: “And the film we were attending at the time when the sixth season of Theater Misr was starting, and Theater Misr used to take up 16 hours of our time a day for 4 or 5 days a week, and so you spend your whole life in Theater Misr, at the end of your life filming something quiet or simple next to it.” If I had joined, while we were filming Ocean 14 with Masrah Misr, we would not have slept and it would have been very stressful, and I would have had a problem too, and we all had it, and this is normal. We used to do 25 plays every year for 5 years, and the great artists before us in the theater used to have a novel and it would sit with him for years while he memorized it, so he did not take this pressure from his life. Rather, we used to make a new novel every 3 days, and it was frustrating days when the novel did not make you laugh, and then how much later. One day you will work on a completely new play.”

He added: “And when I was working with them in the Misr Theater, I was not afraid of every play with them. During the season, you will see 20 plays. I entered 10 of them in seasons 8 and in seasons 16. Aws Aws, for example, was a tuk-tuk driver in the Misr Theater who still wanted to work, and that’s it. This was energy and it had its value, and those days I was having a lot of fun, and I certainly wasn’t happy leaving the Misr Theater behind, and a decision had to be made to… I left them because I was entering a dream movie of my life.”

It is noteworthy that Omar Mostafa Metwally’s last participation was in the movie “Pension Dalal” among a group of Egyptian cinema stars, including Bayoumi Fouad, Ghada Talaat, Khaled Sarhan, Walid Fawaz, Mohamed Radwan, written by Hussein Niazi and Shadi Al-Ramli, directed by Shadi Al-Ramli.
