On the fourteenth of November every year, health organizations around the world celebrate World Diabetes Day, to raise awareness of the causes of the disease, its types, symptoms, its most prominent treatments, and ways to prevent it.
In the following report, “Consulto” reviews the normal range for blood sugar, according to the “Diabetes.co.uk” and “Medlineplus” websites.

Normal blood sugar range
First: the normal blood sugar range for healthy people
– The normal range of blood sugar before eating: ranges from 4.0 to 5.4 mmol/L (72 – 99 mg/dL).
– Normal blood sugar range two hours after eating: 7.8 mmol/L (140 mg/dL).
Second: The normal blood sugar range for diabetics
The normal range of blood sugar before meals: ranges between 4 and 7 mmol/L for diabetics, whether type 1 or type 2.
– The normal range of blood sugar after meals: less than 9 mmol/L for patients with type 1 diabetes, and less than 805 mmol/L for patients with type 2 diabetes.
Normal blood sugar range according to age
First: the normal blood sugar level before eating
Healthy adults: between 50 and 7.2 mmol/L (90-130 mg/dL).
Adults with diabetes: ranges between 4.4 and 7.2 mmol/L (80-130 mg/dL).
Children 12-19 years: 50-7.2 mmol/L (90-130 mg/dL)
Children 6-12 years: ranges between 5 and 10 mmol/L (90-180 mg/dL).
Children under 6 years: between 5 and 10 mmol/L (90 – 180 mg/dL)
Second: The normal blood sugar level 1-2 hours after eating
Less than 10 mmol/L (less than 180 mg/dL).
Third: The normal blood sugar level at bedtime
Adults: ranges between 5 and 8.3 mmol/L (90-150 mg/dL).
Children 13-19 years: ranges between 5 and 8.3 mmol/L (90-150 mg/dL).
Children 6-12 years: 5.5-10 mmol/L (100-180 mg/dL).
Children under 6 years: ranges between 6.1 and 11.1 mmol/L (110-200 mg/dL).

Measuring blood sugar when diagnosing diabetes
First: random blood sugar rate
Normal blood sugar range: less than 11.1 mmol/L (less than 200 mg/dL).
Post-diabetic blood sugar: 11.1 mmol/L or more (200 mg/dL or more).
Second: Fasting blood sugar level
Normal blood sugar range: less than 5.5 mmol/L (less than 100 mg/dL).
Blood sugar level in the pre-diabetic stage: ranges between 5.5 and 6.9 mmol/L (100-125 mg/dL).
Post-diabetic blood sugar: 7 mmol/L or more (125 mg/dL or more).
Third: Blood sugar level two hours after eating
– Normal blood sugar range: less than 7.8 mmol/L (less than 140 mg/dL).
– Blood sugar level in the pre-diabetic stage: ranges between 7.8 and 11 mmol/L (140-199 mg/dL).
Post-diabetic blood sugar: 11.1 mmol/L or more (200 mg/dL).
